Youth activities
We’ve provided everything you’ll need to run an activity, from instructions to maps and cards. Instruction sheets are provided in black and white and colour (you choose) but the elements for the activities like character cards, maps and such, are all in colour. And if you can, it's worth getting this stuff printed professionally and laminated – it makes it all nice and hard-wearing and professional-like.
The downloads come in handy ZIP file bundles. You’ll need WinZip to unzip the bundles and Acrobat Reader to view the pdf files inside.
Mapping - Where do they come from? Where do they go?
This activity uses maps to look at where asylum seekers come from, where they go to. Like the general one but instructions and debrief points are a bit, erm, briefer.
Quiz
Comes in different formats like the general version – true/false for novices, multiple choice for the boffins – but with some questions relating more to young refugees.
What's in a name?
By giving participants some of the labels given to asylum seekers, this explores the impact of labelling and stereotyping, and builds empathy with asylum seekers and refugees and understanding of the labels they are faced with. Is like the general one but character cards and debrief points are a bit more geared to yoot.
Media myths
Looks at media coverage of youth and media coverage of asylum and explores how myths and stereotypes are created.
