Special actions for voluntary groups

Here’s a few helpful suggestions for anyone involved with voluntary groups.

Drum up some lovely volunteers

If you run a service or activity that needs volunteers, think about recruiting asylum seekers and refugees. This gives them a brilliant opportunity to meet new people and get properly involved in their local community.

Fill your head up with expert info

Order or download guides on involving refugees and asylum seekers as volunteers to gain some top tips from experts. Some good websites include Tandem and Voluntary Action Sheffield.

Get refugees out and about

Remember that there are a bagful of barriers that asylum seekers and refugees face as volunteers, including lack of knowledge about UK volunteering and cultural attitudes towards volunteering. However, volunteering is a great way for newcomers to meet new people, gain work experience, restore self-esteem and give something back to the community – so once they know more about it, people are very keen to get involved.
