Refugee Action is 30!

Refugee Action was first established on October 26^th 1981, making 2011 our 30^th anniversary year.

For thirty years, we have been working creatively and supportively with refugees and asylum seekers, helping them to build new lives and making sure their voices are heard.

How we've been celebrating

During October, we’ve been celebrating our 30th anniversary in lots of ways. Here’s a few of the things we’ve been up to…

• Our birthday blogs looked back at our history, with a message from our founder trustees, interviews with former colleague
  from the 1990s, a look back to our awareness raising work in the 2000s, and a special birthday message from our Chief Executive.
• We dug out some of our 80s newsletters from the archives to
  find out what went on during our first decade.
• We posted online galleries of our work throughout the years: with Vietnamese refugees in the 1980s, with evacuees from Bosnia and Kosovo in the 90s, and of our work in the 2000s and beyond.
• Our staff got into the birthday spirit and shared memories — and photos — of themselves in the year we were founded in our 1980s “rogues’ gallery” (on Facebook for a limited time only!).
• We made a new video about legacies, looking back at our history to see how leaving a gift to Refugee Action in your will helps us to continue our work.
• Our staff took to the phones to call our supporters and tell them about our 30th birthday.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported us and stood up for refugees and asylum seekers during the last 30 years.  Your support is more important to us now than ever.
