Refugee Action produces a number of leaflets providing advice to asylum seekers and those working with asylum seekers in a wide range of languages. The leaflets are available as PDF files to download and print - you will need free Adobe software to use them.

We also produce advice for asylum seekers considering voluntary return to their countries of origin through our Choices project. Asylum advice is also available directly from our asylum teams across the country.

Offence of being undocumented (Section 2)

Are you going to claim asylum or go to an asylum interview? Do you have valid documentation?

It is now a crime for you to enter the UK or to attend an asylum interview without a valid document which states your name and nationality or citizenship. It is also a crime for you not to provide a valid document for any children dependant on you.

Our information sheet explains what are considered as valid documents and what the Government considers a reasonable excuse.

This policy is being reviewed and is not currently available in translation.

Refugee women: know your rights

Are you a refugee woman or woman seeking asylum?

You have the right to be safe while living in the UK. You have the right to be safe in your home, when you go out, within your community, at places you visit and where you work. Women in the UK, including refugees and asylum seekers have rights when they are married or in relationships and if that relationship or marriage ends. You also have rights regarding your children. Women do not have to suffer domestic violence, which is any type of abuse in your home.

Your rights are upheld by the laws of the UK. The leaflets below contain more information about these rights. The leaflets can also tell you what to do if you think your rights are not being respected.
