As Educational Placement Coordinator, you will be delivering and developing a new role to act as an advocate for Syrian refugee children, young people and families arriving through the Resettlement Programme. You will be advising them on the school admissions process and helping them to secure suitable school, early years or college places.

A major part of your role will be working collaboratively with the school’s admission team at Birmingham City Council to identify schools that have vacancies and then you will support families to enrol children. You will also be liaising and providing support for the Local Authority in placing other asylum seeking pupils into education.

You will have:
• An understanding of the issues facing refugees during integration to a new community.
• Experience of advocating on behalf of vulnerable groups and/or individuals and of negotiating with schools and other bodies to secure the appropriate placement of vulnerable children.

• Experience of working with other professionals collaboratively and in multi-disciplinary settings.
• An understanding of Refugee Communities and insight into how to collaborate with a range of providers to support them.
• Experience and understanding of supporting volunteers to deliver services to clients.
