Volunteering

Refugee Action Liverpool staff are supported by our large diverse volunteer team that enable us to broaden the range of services that we offer to our clients. Across our two sites, volunteers fulfil a variety of roles:

Mount Pleasant Office - City centre

Asylum support volunteers work alongside our casework and keyworker staff to assist clients address any difficulties they may be having with accessing their support and any other asylum advice issues they may have.

Integration support volunteers work alongside our case managers to help clients that have been granted refugee status access the services they need to support their integration needs.

Integration mentors work on a more long term basis with an individual client for up to 12 months to help them meet their personal integration and employment goals.

Volunteer administrators assist the office by providing office administration support. This does not involve client contact and involves our working with our IT system.

Birley Court Office, Percy Street, Liverpool 8

Our new arrival support volunteers assist newly arrived asylum seekers in their temporary accommodation whilst they await dispersal to more permanent accommodation. They do this by accompanying people to different support groups in Liverpool, taking them to important appointments such as solicitors, helping them orientate to the local area and providing some sporting/social activities.

Refugee Awareness Project volunteers present and facilitate refugee awareness sessions to groups of people to counter the myths surrounding asylum and present the realities of refugee issues.

ESOL volunteers hold a rolling programme of ESOL lessons designed to support newly arrived asylum seekers in their first few weeks of arriving in the UK.
