Refugee Action's response to Darfur Court of Appeal Ruling

4 April 2007

In response to today's Court of Appeal ruling that refugees from Darfur should not be removed to Sudan, Sandy Buchan, Chief Executive of Refugee Action, said:

"We are delighted with this ruling. It is incredible to think that the UK government should return people back to a country where large-scale massacres and persecution has been taking place, and where some two million displaced people live in dangerous and overcrowded refugee camps.

"The people who have reached the UK are a fraction of the number affected by this conflict and we encourage the UK government to allow them status so that they can work and support themselves until the situation improves."
