Today's announcement that the new government has agreed to end child detention was welcomed by Refugee Action.

Jill Roberts, the Chief Executive of Refugee Action, said: "We are delighted that the new government has agreed to end the detention of children for immigration purposes. We have long campaigned for an end to the inhumane and expensive detention of children and are glad to see that such an important issue has been put at the top of the agenda for the government."
