Sunday 20 June 2010 - 1.30pm
Meet in Horse Guards Avenue, London, SW1A
Collect your umbrella at the meeting point, and parade with us past the Houses of Parliament, and across Westminster Bridge, ending at Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park.
Please bring a picnic to enjoy at the end of the march if the sun is shining!
On 20 June hundreds of refugees, people seeking asylum, and their supporters will march through London for the World Refugee Day Umbrella Parade, to celebrate the protection of refugees and the great contribution refugees have offered to our society.
Everyone who takes part will be given a huge white umbrella to carry as a symbol of care and shelter, representing our proud tradition of offering safety to those in need of international protection.
Similar parades are also taking place in eight other cities in Europe so we’ll be marching in solidarity with thousands of others across the continent.
We hope that as many people as possible from across the UK will come along on the day to enjoy the march and celebrate with us on this exciting day.
Everyone is welcome, so please bring friends, family and colleagues and help us celebrate our proud tradition of offering a place of safety to those who have suffered war, torture and persecution.
Please let us know you are coming by emailing us at info@refugee-action.org.uk or signing up to attend on the Facebook page.
The parade is being organised across Europe by the European Council for Refuges and Exiles (ECRE). The London parade is organised by the Refugee Council, UNHCR, Amnesty International, the British Red Cross and STAR, in collaboration with Refugee Action.
