What kinds of things will I do?

It depends on the volunteer role you undertake. Examples of roles:

  • Admin Volunteer Level 1 (without IT skills)
  • Admin Volunteer Level 2
  • Casework assistant
  • Drop-in assistant
  • Friends of Refugee Action in Devon and Cornwall (newsletter)

Could You Mentor A Refugee?
We are currently seeking mentors in Plymouth.

Refugees arrive in the UK seeking safety after being forced to flee conflict, discrimination, and persecution. Many refugees continue to experience difficulties in the UK while they struggle with an unfamiliar language and culture.

Refugee Action’s Employment Service recognises that the opportunity to work promotes integration and wellbeing, a process which can be greatly supported by the contribution of volunteer mentors.

What training and support will I get?

All volunteers receive a full induction and training for the role they undertake.

You will have a supervisor who will meet with you regularly to provide support, feedback on your volunteering and discuss training needs and personal development.

Expenses such at travel costs to and from the place you volunteer and lunch costs are paid for by Refugee Action.

We believe we provide an interesting and supportive setting where you will meet new people, and gain new skills and knowledge.

How much time will I need to give?

It depends on the project, but we usually expect people to volunteer for the minimum of half a day (3.5 hrs) a week.

How do I apply?

We ask people to complete an application form and attend an interview. We are happy to give people support to fill in the application form.

We have a list of people who are interested in volunteering with Refugee Action, and contact people on the list when a position becomes available.
