Justice: our right or privilege?
A statue of Lady Justice

Every UK citizen knows it's their implicit right as a human being to access justice when they need it. Did you know that the same right is often denied to refused asylum seekers; even if their safety is at stake?

We know that applications for protection are often wrongly turned down – each year, as many as a quarter of refused applications for asylum are assessed as wrong following the appeal*.

This situation has become even more grave recently, as the two major charities providing free legal representation to asylum seekers have gone into administration**. Asylum seekers are unfairly denied access to justice when they need it most.

Refugee Action’s new project, Access to Justice, will help hundreds of refused asylum seekers every year. We will help them secure legal aid to lodge an appeal and find a new lawyer to represent them.
