and living in damp and freezing
conditions? This was Magi’s reality.

Your Actions can change lives. Join a movement of people standing up for humanity and plan your own fundraising for Refugee Action.

Whether you’re a master baker or creative crafter, marathon gamer or marathon runner. From home, on your own, or with friends, family and colleagues in your community – be inspired by some of our favourite fundraising ideas.

Whatever you choose, the funds you raise will make a world of difference for people seeking safety in the UK.

Go The Distance

Could you complete a physical feat and become a human rights hero? Why not …

  • Walk 108 miles over a month to represent the distance from Calais to London
  • Run 33.3 km, the length of the English channel, in a week
  • Jog everyday for 79 days, to stand up for the safety of the 79 million forcibly displaced people worldwide.
  • Cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats. If you’re feeling brave take on the challenge in person, or cover the same distance from the comfort of your own home on an exercise bike
  • Join the Refugee Rally. Our friends at International Action Group are running a brilliant fundraiser for Refugee Action over the summer.  Check out their website to find out more.

Get together (in person or online!)

  • Hold a Bake Sale: Tried and tested, who doesn’t love the chance to get creative in the kitchen and swap your delicious cupcakes for cash. Whether you hold it at school, at church or in your home (coronavirus restrictions permitting), bring people together to celebrate the refugees with a big slice of Victoria Sponge. Stuck inside? Go virtual! Advertise your bakes to your local community, set up a JustGiving page and arrange a socially distanced delivery.
  • Share your Celebration: Do something different for your big day. Give the gift of your birthday, wedding or retirement to help a refugee find a fresh start in the UK. To get going, set up a Facebook Fundraiser or JustGiving page, tell people why helping people seeking safety matters to you and ask your friends, family and colleagues to donate in place of a gift.
  • Quiz-it: Honed your quiz skills during the coronavirus lockdown? Perfect for in-person or virtually, why not put your mates, mum or even your boss to the test and run your own quiz. You could even make it themed and invite others to get involved on social media.
  • Share your skills: Are you a practiced yogi? Knitter extraordinaire? Master curry-maker? Whatever your skill, host a masterclass for your nearest and dearest (either in person or virtually from the comfort of your own living room) and ask for a donation to your fundraiser in return.
  • Host a Livestream session: A virtual gig, comedy session or gaming marathon, turn your hobby into a force for good by using Twitch and JustGiving to stream your fundraiser.

Sell Something

  • Feeling crafty? Did you take up a new crafting hobby in 2020, whether it’s handmade cards, jewellery, embroidery or plants – why not sell something you’ve made to raise funds for refugees?
  • Out with the old? Have you had a good old spring clean? Bags full of things you no longer need? Make the most of Virgin Money Giving’s partnership with Ziffit to turn those unwanted books, CDs and DVDs into donations.
  • Are you a small business owner? Support Refugee Action through a percentage of your sales in partnership with Work For Good.
