Following the Prime Minister’s statement in Lisbon this morning, that the UK is preparing to accept ‘thousands’ of refugees from Syria, Stephen Hale, Chief Executive of Refugee Action, said:
“We welcome David Cameron’s indication that the UK will now scale up its part in tackling the refugee crisis – and reflecting growing public concern – by accepting more people fleeing war and persecution.
We need action not words – and crucially, the numbers of refugees involved. We know that the British public is looking to the government to show compassion and make a firm pledge to resettle a large number of refugees in line with people’s expectations.”
