Refugee Action has issued a statement following the death of a man at Manston, where people seeking asylum are taken after arriving in the UK.
Tim Naor Hilton, Chief Executive of Refugee Action, said:
“Our thoughts lie with this man’s loved ones and other people stuck at the Manston centre.
“It’s vital that there is a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances around the death.
“What’s shameful is that despite witnessing massive overcrowding and outbreaks of other diseases at the centre people are still being kept for days on end in wretched conditions there.
“It’s time the government ditched the hostility and started treating people with compassion and dignity.”
