Refugee Action welcomes moves to protect children from Calais

By October 17, 2016October 19th, 2016Press release

Refugee Action welcomes news that vulnerable children from Calais have begun to arrive in Britain ahead of the camp’s planned demolition.

Stephen Hale, chief executive of Refugee Action, says:

“It’s fantastic that, at last, Britain is welcoming a group of vulnerable children from Calais to be reunited with their loved ones.

“The Government must now ensure these children have the right support to rebuild their lives.

“Refugee Action has supported children who have been reunited with their families earlier this year, and we’re ready to work with others to provide support to those due to arrive in the coming days and weeks.

“The Government has a responsibility to many more children and young people living in unsafe conditions, at risk of exploitation, who should be with their families.

“Bringing families together prevents vulnerable adults and children making dangerous journey to join their loved ones.”
