Fundraising at school

We are constantly inspired by the younger generation, and their commitment to kindness and justice. Get your school involved by hosting a fundraiser for Refugee Action, and teach your pupils about refugee and migrant issues. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Dress down day

The tried and tested classic. Let your pupils ditch the uniforms for a day and ask each pupil to make a donation to take part. You could even harness their creativity by asking students to dress in the Refugee Action signature black and green.

Get arty

Run an art competition in your class or year, and ask each pupil to create something based around the theme of welcoming refugees, or looking for a safe place to call home. We’d love to see what you come up with!

Talent show

Task your pupils with researching famous refugees and migrants that they can emulate in a talent show. Singers can imitate the likes of M.IA or Rita Ora, sporty types can be inspired by Victor Moses and Fabrice Mumba, or budding scientists could channel the smarts of Einstein!

Race for refugees

Organise a sponsored run, swim or walk with your pupils, and use the opportunity to talk about the long journeys people fleeing violence and persecution must make to find safety. Ask pupils to  donate to take part, or to fundraise from family and friends.

Writing competition

There are loads of brilliant books about migrants and refugees out there, suitable for children of all ages. Whether it’s Benjamin Zephaniah’s Refugee Boy or Khaled Hosseni’s Sea Prayer for older pupils, or The Adventures of Paddington Bear for younger audiences! Once you’ve read these books with your class, ask your pupils to write their own versions.
